
It was a great week for the area’s high school football players as nearly two dozen signed to play football at the next level.
That number will be growing in the coming days as some guys decide to go the JUCO route.
The area produced two Division I athletes as Jacksboro’s Cannon Valenzuela signed with Colorado State in December. Legacy defensive lineman Cayven Hull signed with Abilene Christian this past week.
Another noteworthy development was former Benjamin standout Grayson Rigdon signing with Arizona State. The Columbus standout had signed with Wyoming in the fall, but Rigdon changed his mind and is joining the Big 12 champions.
Midwestern State inked four area players, getting a commitment from Memorial running back Kenji Johnson on Friday afternoon. The Mustangs also inked a pair of quarterbacks – Holliday’s Hunter Jones and Seymour’s Brayden Loyd – plus Holliday’s Steele Skinner.
