Area UIL state track qualifiers list
Holliday girls, Saint Jo teams claim regional titles Saturday night

With most regions pushing back field events because of Friday’s forecasted weather, it made for one hectic Saturday for the area’s track competitors.
But once the dust settled - and in Abilene at the Regions I-3A and II-A meets, it wasn’t until nearly midnight - the Wichita Falls area locked up more than 60 berths at the UIL State Track Meet.
The Holliday girls claimed the Region I-3A title thanks to a 1-2-3 finish in the mile and winning the mile relay. Kenli Atwood left ACU with three gold medals, claiming the 800, 1,600 and running a leg on the 4x400.
Holliday’s Noah Strohman won two golds and a silver in the distance races with his brother Ryder beating him in the 3,200 and earning silver in the other two races. They accounted for 54 of Holliday’s 116 points (Wall won with 141).
(A previous version of this story had Noah winning all three races, but Ryder actually beat him in the 3,200. Apologies for the error. I am human, and so is Noah Strohman apparently).
Saint Jo was a big winner at the Region III-A Meet at Waco Midway as the Panthers and Lady Panthers claimed regional titles. Damon Byrd brought home the most hardware as he won three individual gold medals (long jump, triple jump, 100) plus a gold and silver in relay races.
Another noteworthy development was Memorial’s Braylon Kinzie (800) and Uriah Tucker (110 hurdles) claiming regional titles and earning the school’s first state bids.
Eight area athletes had to wait and advanced as wild cards, including City View’s Blaine Hill (shot put) and Jayden Bradford (discus).
The UIL state meet will happen May 14-16 in Austin with Class 3A and 4A starting it off followed by 5A/2A and ending with 6A/A.
