Area's longest bi-district winning streaks
Windthorst tops the list; some schools' totals will surprise you
In spending some time researching the past 25 years of area high school football for our project, I came across one of Jonathan Hull’s notes that floored me.
I’m a big fan of streaks, but even I didn’t realize Windthorst owned a streak of 12 consecutive seasons with a playoff victory.
But then I started trying to remember when the last time the Trojans were done after the bi-district round. And I couldn’t.
The answer is 2012 when Windthorst battled a good Anson team but came up short, 35-28. The Trojans were Division I back then – the UIL still called their classification 1A – and that was Chris Tackett’s first season as head coach.
I thought about holding off publishing this story until before the 2025 playoffs, but I didn’t want the Trojans’ coaches and the fine people in Windthorst thinking I was jinxing their team on the eve of a win-or-go-home matchup.
The area’s streak began in 2013 when Windthorst edged Forsan 20-14. A couple years later, the Trojans took down Forsan as the four seed.
