Stats can mean so many things.
They’re a numerical representative of individual accomplishment.
They’re a historical measure of one’s success.
They can tell a story of how a game unfolded.
They can be manipulated to prove one’s point.
I love stats for all the above reasons. It pains me that sportswriters 40 years from now won’t be able to sift through newspaper archives to find out about a classic high school football playoff game from 2026.
Maybe I should just hope sports writing exists then. Maybe all media consumption will be TikTok videos, and we’ll have a chip implanted in our brain that provides us all the information we’ll ever need.
Anyway, below is a list of the Top 10 area returners in four categories: rushing, passing, receiving and tackles.
Just by looking at the numbers, you’ll notice a couple trends like how the area doesn’t have much quarterback experience and how a couple juniors enter the fall with massive expectations. I also share my thoughts on the numbers for each category.
