Author’s Note: We are spending the offseason looking back at each area team’s past quarter century of football (from 2000-24). Vernon was our first school last week.

Bowie is a basketball school. No one is going to argue that considering the Jackrabbits own six state championships in the sport.

While Bowie hasn’t quite tasted the same success on the gridiron – it’s had two playoff victories over the past 43 seasons – the Jackrabbits have been a bit unlucky in that department, too.

There was a four-year stretch in the 1940s when Bowie recorded a 41-3-2 record under Raymond Mattingly, but that was back when smaller schools could only win a regional title.
