Memorial Stadium after a night in which Palo Duro walked away with a 48-6 win over the Mavericks.

It was a light Week 6 thanks to several teams being on byes. There wasn’t a single down-to-the-wire game Friday night in our area, either.

But we still saw some things and learned some things. Here are five takeaways from last night.

Palo Duro is really impressive

Football fans shouldn’t be surprised the Dons beat Memorial, but the way they beat the Mavericks should turn some heads.

Palo Duro scored four first-half touchdowns in less than 11 minutes of game action Friday night in a 48-6 blowout. The Dons outgained Memorial by more than 300 yards and Julian Reese II had as many touchdown passes as incompletions (four).

Was it a motivated performance from a PD squad that wanted to prove a point in the 2-5A Division II race? Yes. Was it an off-night for Memorial? Yes.

But should Eric Mims’ squad also be considered the district favorite with five weeks left in the season? Also yes.
