It’s difficult to say that Jacksboro is enjoying its golden age of football right now only because there have been so many good stretches.
The program’s prime could best describe the early 1960s when Chuck Curtis led the Tigers to a state semifinal appearance followed by the 1962 Class 2A state championship.
Or maybe a decade later when Jacksboro won the 1971 Class 2A title 20-14 over Rosebud-Lott. Those Tigers averaged 11 victories from 1969-72.
At the turn of this century was a special time in Jack County as the Tigers won 10 games in Doyle Walker’s last season (2001) followed by Jeff Miller leading Jacksboro to a 20-4 record in his first two years.
So maybe what we’re witnessing now isn’t the best stretch of football in Jacksboro history, but it’s certainly up there. The Tigers have made the playoffs nine consecutive times, posting a winning record in eight of those seasons.
