Looking at the 6-2A D-II race
District coaches offer their thoughts on how things could play out
Windthorst is a heavy favorite to win District 6-2A Division II. You won’t find anyone who will argue that.
In fact, Pigskinprep.com has the Trojans beating everyone by at least 20 points in district, which starts Friday night.
But after that, who knows? I asked a couple people the other day if they felt good about anyone else being a lock for second place, and the answer was a resounding, “Nope.”
Electra’s win over Santo is probably the best result between the six schools. Seymour has played the hardest schedule. You’ve got teams like Munday and Petrolia that are better but unproven. You’ve got teams like Archer City and Haskell that have thrived in these spots before.
But you don’t have a definitive “this is Windthorst’s biggest challenger” or “this team is a lock for the playoffs.”
Sometimes I like to bounce my feelings off others to make sure I’m not seeing something different. For this story, I reached out to most 6-2A Division II head coaches.
I asked them three questions below and provided anonymity so they’d be free to answer candidly. Below are their responses:
What has been the biggest surprise so far in your district?
“The biggest surprise so far is how competitive the district has been to start the season. Munday winning big in their first few games surprised me.”
