It’s something that comes around like clockwork. 

Death, taxes and complaining about too many teams making the high school football playoffs. 

Trust me, I get it. Scores like 84-0 (Abilene over El Paso Parkland) and 85-7 (Holliday against Dublin) seem absurd and can feel like a waste of time. 

A couple 0-10 teams made the playoffs. Some terrible teams spent the past week practicing. 

But here’s the deal. Every year a few of these fourth-place schools advance to the area round by knocking off a district champ. 

The playoff format isn’t changing, and it shouldn’t change. Some districts deserve a fourth playoff team because they’re so deep.
