Talking high school football stadiums
A drive to San Antonio offers up plenty of different football facilities

We took a road trip to San Antonio at the end of spring break. I’ve always preferred the leisurely drive down Highway 281 when visiting Central Texas.
Sure, you have to slow down every 20-30 miles to go through a small town, but it beats the white-knuckle driving that is I-35. Plus it’s much more scenic and shorter mileage-wise.
The only risk you’re taking in my opinion is construction that trims 281 down to one lane (looking at you, Perrin) or getting stuck behind a large piece of farm equipment (this happened to Marc Bindel and I coming back from state tennis almost three years ago. Talk about painful).
During the drive down to San Antonio, I was curious how many high school football stadiums could be seen from the road (Yes, this is how my mind works).
From my decades of experience in the area, I knew you’d be able to see Jacksboro’s Tiger Stadium easily from the road. And that Mineral Wells’ Ram Stadium – where I have both covered football games and coached soccer games this year – would be hidden.
There are 14 area towns you pass through from Wichita Falls to the San Antonio outskirts. Or at least 14 with high schools that play football.
Guess how many stadiums you can see if you’re really looking? I would have thought 7-8, but I was wrong.
