There wasn’t a bus that caught on fire this time. Thank goodness for that.

And there wasn’t an ineligible player situation that vaulted a team into the playoffs.

So Friday night wasn’t exactly like the last time we had district high school football games being played – Week 11 of the 2024 season.

But there was chaos, lots of it as several districts began with a bang. Pick your favorite surprise:

* Plainview taking down Lubbock-Cooper 37-22 despite being a four-touchdown underdog. No doubt that’s one of the Bulldogs’ biggest wins in some time.

* It wasn’t quite the upset that Plainview was, but No. 10 Memorial dropping a 42-27 decision on the road against Abilene Cooper raised eyebrows.

* How about Archer City erasing a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun Munday for a 44-37 win on Homecoming?
